Our mission is to pursue excellence in teaching, research and community service, maintaining a commitment to life-long learning related to young children and families in local, national and international contexts.
We strive to be an authoritative voice for and about early childhood and to promote respect for children, childhood as a life space, and for environments that strengthen children's intellectual, social, emotional, linguistic and aesthetical capacities.
The School of Early Childhood is a strong advocate of high quality provision for children and families through its consultative evidence-based leadership with government and community bodies. We advocate for children's human rights to provision, protection and participation as articulated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1989.
We challenge each other, our colleagues in the field, and the community at large, on matters of primary importance to the growth, development, education and social contexts of young children.
The School of Early Childhood promotes opportunities to listen to the views of children on issues pertinent to their lives and to advocate for improvements in services for children.
